Back in 1972, Steve's Aunt Pat painted this masterpiece for her beloved husband, Uncle Jake. It was the perfect gift for the man who founded and operated the Chino Livestock Commission, where most of the cattle in that area was sold at auction. The Cattle Baron graced the walls of Uncle Jake's establishment bearing witness to countless cattle deals over the years. When Uncle Jake relocated to Bliss, Idaho, the Cattle Baron followed him to his new home. There Steve and Uncle Jake enjoyed each other's company playing pool and reminiscing about life.
After Uncle Jake's passing, Steve inherited the painting. While not everyone shares their love for the portrait, it is a nod to our cattle-filled past and the fulfillment of Steve's promise to Uncle Jake. One late night around the pool table, Steve promised Uncle Jake that the Cattle Baron would grace the label of our first red wine. Our 2015 Syrah, of which precious few bottles remain, was this wine. Sadly, Uncle Jake never saw or tasted the fulfillment of this promise. Only a few close friends and family had that privilege, but it was the foundation on which Bosma Estate Winery was established.
With every sip of our wine, we hope you toast to the timeless bond of family where love, legacy and art come together in a glass of great wine!
